Dewald Brevis Signs with CSK
On August 16, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) announced the signing of South African cricket star Dewald Brevis as a replacement player for the IPL 2025 season. This move aligns with the IPL Player Regulations for 2025-2027, specifically under clause 6.6 regarding Replacement Players.
According to the regulations, a replacement player can be signed at a league fee not exceeding that of the injured or unavailable player for the season. If a replacement is brought in during the season, their fee will be adjusted based on the matches played by the franchise before their registration and any other relevant deductions outlined in the player contract.
Brevis had an impressive debut season with CSK, finishing with a remarkable half-century that contributed to a victory against the Gujarat Titans, despite the team's overall disappointing performance.
Previously, Brevis played for the Mumbai Indians from 2022 to 2024, where he accumulated 230 runs in 10 matches with an average of 23.00 and a strike rate exceeding 133.72. His stint with CSK was notable, as he scored 225 runs in just six innings, averaging 37.50 with a striking rate of 180.00, including two fifties. He joined CSK mid-season as a replacement for bowler Gurjanpreet Singh, who was acquired for ₹2.2 Crores.
In the IPL 2025 season, CSK finished in the 10th position, winning only four out of their 14 matches. The previous year, they also struggled, ending fifth after securing seven victories in 14 games.
